Cultural & Culinary Foody restaurants east of Lake Vättern – this tiny area offers a lot. Beautiful scenery, historical and cultural sites, small towns, some of the best restaurants in the region, a vineyard and much more! The tour starts at the vineyard south of Tåkern, continues to historic Vadstena to explore the medieval city centre, and ends on the third day at Omberg.
This is a tour for the those who are interested in history and food culture, and want to travel getting to know the locals, staying at family-owned B&B’s and eating in restaurants recognised in Sweden’s food bible, The White Guide.
- Explore the nature around Omberg, Vättern and Tåkern with a local guide
- Visit a Swedish vineyard – they are not common around here! We’ll eat and stay the night here
- Visit the home of the famous Swedish author Ellen Key and hear the story of why she was such a visionary of her time
- The ruins of Alvastra Monastery – beautifully situated at the foot of Mount Omberg

We enjoy outdoor walking on the forest trails at Omberg and round the lake at Tåkern. The trails are undulating but not steep and we take them at a nice steady pace. Otherwise the rest of the trip is mostly walking on level and paved pathways.

Pick-up and drop-off included
The tour starts at 4 pm at the Särtshöga Wineyard. But we also have a pick-up service:
From the Motala/Linköping/Mjölby region
We’ll pick you up from your hotel or at the stations within the Vadstena, Motala, Mjölby, Ödeshög and Linköping area – free of charge. The pick-up is between 15-16.00. We can also drop you off after the tour in this area – free of charge. The drop-off is between 13.00-14.30.
We can pick you up from the Central Station in Stockholm for an extra charge of 1000SEK/person. The pick-ups will be done during midday, the first day of the tour. We can also pick you up one day earlier and help you with hotel reservation. We will take you back to Stockholm after the tour has finished on day 3. We don't do any pick-ups from airports - we want all our customers to arrive by train, bus, car or bike.

-The transport to the area. But we can help you out – we can pick you up at your hotel/station in the area - or even in Stockholm or at Skavsta Airport. Nearby pick-ups are included. Please see the pick-up section above.
- Extra costs for single room - 1000SEK.
One of our guides will be with you from start and til the end of the tour (except from after dinner, til just before breakfast).
We work with small groups of between 2-10 participants.
This tour has no age limit, and is suitable for everyone.
Q: Can we come - but travel in our own rental car?
A: Of course - if you want to join this tour but already have a rental car - you can. But the price is the same. It's better for the environment if we travel together.

To make a reservation, please use the online booking system below. When you make the reservation you also pay online with a credit card.
If you cancel the tour less than 72 hrs prior to its start you will be given the money back – except for 200 SEK/booking (not per person) which we keep as an administration fee. Cancellations with more than 72 hrs prior to start will be fully refunded. Cancellations on the same day and no-shows will not be refunded at all.

12.00 We eat our lunch at one of the local restaurants in town.
13.00 Guided tour of the old convent area and abbey.
14.30 We continue our travels in the countryside and visit another café, Väderstad Centralkonditori, which has a classification in the White Guide, Sweden’s food bible
16.00 Guided tour of the Alvastra Monastery ruin at Omberg
19.00 We check in to our B&B for the night – Ombergs Turisthotell. We’ll eat a 5-course dinner at the hotel which is also mentioned in the White Guide. They have a strong focus on sourcing their food products locally and will share some storytelling around this. Relax and enjoy the panoramic view from this retro-hotel as this is where we’ll also stay for the night.
